US Market Crash: Will Indian Stocks Gap Down on Monday?

US Market Crash: What Could Happen to Indian Stocks on Monday?

Short answer: Yes, a gap down on Monday is possible, mostly in small caps and high-beta stocks. The bigger signal to watch isn’t NASDAQ. It’s crude oil.

What happened in the US market?

On 30 October, US stocks fell hard. NASDAQ dropped 2.86%, semiconductor stocks crashed 7.2%, and Intel fell about 28% in a single day.

This wasn’t only a stock price story. The whole AI investment story took a hit.

Why did the AI trade shake?

Big companies like Amazon and Alphabet have spent billions of dollars on AI infrastructure. Investors now want to see the actual profit from that spending, and so far they aren’t seeing it.

Intel then gave a disappointing earnings guidance, and the market punished it badly. The lesson is simple. An AI company can have a great future and still be a poor stock.

Is it only a tech problem?

No. Two other things are putting pressure on markets:

  • US 10-year bond yield is around 5%. High interest rates make stock valuations look expensive.
  • Brent crude has gone above $117. Costly oil raises inflation risk for oil-importing countries like India.

What does this mean for India?

Nifty closed 0.51% higher on Friday. But the US sell-off happened after that, so Indian markets haven’t reacted yet.

  • Higher risk: small caps and high-beta stocks could gap down on Monday.
  • Relatively stronger: IT and pharma may hold up better.

What’s the most important signal?

Not NASDAQ. Crude oil. If Brent stays above $117, it could trigger a bigger global tech correction.

What should you do on Monday?

  1. Don’t take decisions in panic.
  2. Focus on cash-generating businesses.
  3. Watch your position size.
  4. Expect volatility. If you must trade, use a much smaller quantity, or skip Monday.

As the creator puts it: money saved is money made.
